With 8 years’ development since its debut in 2005, the Cross-Strait Tourism Fair (also known as the Cross-Strait Travel Fair) has become a hugely important event, benefiting the economies on both sides of the Strait in myriad ways, and increasing cooperation between the two sides in all areas.
This year’s expo will be held concurrently with the 17th CIFIT from 8th to 11th September, and includes the cross-strait tourism forum, launch ceremony of Xiamen University’s study tour base, a travel projects exhibition and a major travel program signing ceremony.
A total of 11 specialized areas will be set up including a Fujian Tourism Area, Outbound Tourism Area, Rural Tourism Area, Hot Spring Tourism Area, Provincial & Municipal Tourism Area, Cultural Tourism Area, Outdoor Travel Products Area, Airline Tourism Area, Discounted Tourism Products Area, New Tourism Trend Area and Tourism Culture Area.
The exhibition this year will cover an area of 11,000 square meters, compared to 8,000 square meters in previous years. The number of booths will also be increased from 400 to 600.
During this year’s expo, a series of high-end tourism products, including helicopters, luxury yachts, large motor homes and wood houses, etc, will be displayed at the outdoor exhibition area. On the day, visitors may have the opportunity to enjoy a ride in a helicopter.
According to reports, the Xiamen Tourism Bureau is to launch a new tourism draw, helicopter tours, for the upcoming mid-autumn festival and National Day.
In 2012, the expo received over 53,000 visitors, and 6,700 of them spent a total of 6.5 million yuan buying the tourism products onsite. Last year’s event attracted investment of 33.535 billion yuan.
