Romanian-born Canadian inventor Alexandru Duru managed to fly over 275 meters on the hoverboard he designed himself. Even tho the flight took place in August 2014, Guinness World Records just made it official, on May 22, 2015.
The idea of the hoverboard became quite popular after the concept was seen in the Back to the Future II movie, then later in Spider Man and Fantastic Four movies. Twenty-five years after its first appearance on television, the hoverboard finally became real, thanks to Alexandru Duru’s invention.
Guinness World Records statement: “Straight from something out of the future, Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru’s propeller-based hoverboard managed to travel a total distance of 275.9 m (905 ft 2 in) to achieve a new Guinness World Records title for Farthest flight by a hoverboard”.
Alexandru Duru flew above Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada and managed to get his hoverboard at a height of 5 meters, and travelled a distance of 275 meters, destroying the previous record of 50 meters.
