The Sea King helicopter is celebrating in 2013 its 50th anniversary. This unique helicopter has served Canada and Canadians proudly since 1963.
“A 50th anniversary could not have been anticipated when the Sea Kings first came into service in 1963 as a key component of Canada’s anti-submarine warfare program. The much-heralded, versatile Sea King provided the Canadian navy with a vital military asset in the defence of Canadian waters against the threat of Russian submarines.” – thechronicleherald.ca
The Sea King was built in four countries—the U.S., England, Italy and Japan—and is operated by more than 20 countries around the world. More than 1,500 military and commercial versions have been built worldwide.
