Switzerland: Army helicopters carry out night manoeuvres

The Swiss army is to carry out exercises during the night as helicopter crews train for search and rescue operations.

Crews of the newly delivered Super Puma TH06 helicopter will leave airfields in the cantons of Vaud, Zurich and Obwalden in the dead of night to head for the areas around Glâne in the canton of Fribourg and Creux-du-Van in the canton of Neuchatel.

The Federal Department of Defence says that the training flights will take place, in principle, once a week to allow crews to train on new equipment.

The training will usually be focused on sparsely populated areas.
